Hello Friends and Health Food Enthusiasts,

Greetings from Hyderabad! I will be posting on my gastronomic adventures here in India soon, but before that, let me quickly post on an old favourite: Bijan. As far as fine Malay dining goes, this place is probably the best! An added bonus is that they are allergy-conscious as well – they cater to an expatriate and tourist crowd.

Let’s start with this: the food is intricate, spicy and delicious! You’ll find all your typical labour-intense Malay dishes: rendang, otak-otak, ayam panggang, nasi lemak.

Most dishes are gluten-free, and the waitstaff are generally well-informed about allergies. They also go to great lengths to modify recipes for you!

On a cool night, it is beautiful to sit outside in the candlelight, sip a fresh coconut, and enjoy some local delicacies!

From left to right: grilled prawns, pucuk paku (ferns) with garlic, nasi lemak, and (above) mango kerabu salad. My absolute favourites! What's missing from the picture is the fresh coconut!
